About George D. Bishop
Professor of Psychology
Head, Psychology at the National University of Singapore
I received his B.A. degree, magna cum laude, from Hope College in 1971, majoring in psychology and mathematics, and went on to do my M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in psychology at Yale University.
My career in research and teaching has spanned three continents including North America (Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Washington, DC, University of Texas at San Antonio), Africa (American University in Cairo, Egypt) and Asia (National University of Singapore).
I had originally came to NUS on a one year visiting appointment in 1991 and then stayed on when I became involved in research for which Singapore provided a particularly good venue. In 2005 I became the founding Head of the Department of Psychology when psychology was split from the Department of Social Work and Psychology.
I am married and have a son, a daughter and one very vivacious granddaughter. When I'm not working I enjoy traveling, reading, concerts, movies, doing volunteer work, and playing the piano.
